Skills4theFuture

All St. Clair County graduates will possess seven cross-cutting universal skills that will be the foundational toolkit necessary for future endeavors, regardless of post-secondary plans.  Graduates will be able to apply these skills in diverse contexts including face-to-face and digital spaces, local and global settings, and in places yet to be imagined.

We have listened to community stakeholders - from business, education, and beyond - and blended our local needs with wisdom, research, and standards from Partnership for 21st Century Learning, International Society for Technology in Education, Josh Linkner, and Tony Wagner's Seven Universal Skills to develop our standards, as summarized below:

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving

The ability to break down, analyze, and solve complex problems to drive improvement, decision making, and innovation in diverse contexts.

Collaboration Across Networks and Leading by Influence

The ability to accomplish goals with diverse teams in various environments, while leading and inspiring progress without direct oversight.

Agility and Adaptability

The ability to work flexibly in diverse environments and ambiguous contexts, responding positively to change.

Initiative and Entrepreneurship

The passion and drive to continually learn and grow, demonstrating responsibility and management of progress in reaching goals.

Effective Oral and Written Communication

The ability to clearly express ideas in front of diverse audiences in a variety of contexts, using oral and written communication.

Accessing and Analyzing Information

The ability to obtain implicit and explicit information from various media, using the information ethically when forming and sharing new ideas.

Curiosity and Imagination

The ability to challenge oneself and ask questions with childlike wonder, enthusiastically developing new ideas and solutions through creative approaches.
